Crafts In Motion Swap - SU Thru Aug 22, SO Sept 28

CRAFTS IN MOTION SWAP

Grab your favorite craft supplies and let’s get ready to move it, move it! :woman_dancing: :woman_dancing:

This swap is all about crafts that move. Whether it’s something as simple as an articulated paper doll, as tricked out as one of @TheMistressT’s impressive nut crackers, or an over-the-top windup automaton, motion needs to be part of what you craft. Motion can mean many things - a wind spinner, a door on a hoopla that opens to reveal a picture inside, a crafty hour glass, an accordion papercut scene where the full image only appears when you expand it. As long as something on your craft is meant to move, it qualifies. There are a million ways to interpret the spirit of this swap, and I hope you let your imaginations run wild. Try something new! Take a risk. Make something you’ve always wanted to make and don’t just think outside the box - give that box wings.

This swap is for 1 Medium item. What’s a medium?

This swap is 100% inspired by the Light It Up swap, @gozer ran two years ago. That swap remains one of my all-time favorites because the gallery was filled with incredible crafts and such varying interpretations of the theme. I feel like that swap in-particular pushed many of us to create some amazing, unique pieces we wouldn’t have otherwise. Will this swap do the same? I hope so! But that is entirely up to you.

Here are some examples of LC crafts that have motion to help inspire you!

And for anyone paying attention…yes, I originally proposed this swap and said I’d host it two years ago. :woman_facepalming:

Great swap theme, as ever I’m reluctant to sign up because of crazy mailing costs, but if anyone is happy to have an international partner. I’m in. Currently obsessed with popups and paper engineering, but a hoopla with a moving element would also be really interesting.

I LOVE this swap theme!

My new job has been really tapping me out, physically. But on Friday, I feel like I may have turned a corner, where my body is getting stronger and better able to handle it. Will see if that trend continues so that I’d have enough time & energy for this one.

I really hope things are improving so you have the energy to craft and do fun things, whether you join the swap or not. Though of course, I hope you do get to join!

Sending good vibes and wishes!

I’m thinking it would be really fun to make a paper creature with jointed limbs held with brads.

Thanks for tagging me!
Unfortunately, with the U.S. now charging tariffs for ordinary Canadian citizens to send even small packages, it has become prohibitive to participate in swaps that can’t be sent by lettermail. We end up having to pay the fee for Canada Post to send it, plus duties to the U.S… meaning even small packages end up costing a minimum of $50 to send… For now I’ll need to stick to stuff I can fit in an envelope

Now, if anyone is in the same boat and would like to send a craft that can fit into a lettermail envelope, I’m down. Let me know
