Nerd Games - Fall 2025

Welcome to the Nerd Games!

Runs October 1, 2025 - December 31, 2025

This is a craftalong where nerdy crafters all over the world can share our projects and give each other encouragement - that’s really all there is to it! If you feel you might be a nerd, or enjoy some nerdy things of any kind, or if you’re just nerdy about crafting, you’re more than welcome here!

HOW TO JOIN

Simply make any craft, take photos of it, and post them in this group with the following header, which will be explained below:

Prompt: (Write the name of the prompt you are entering your craft for here. Don’t forget to include the month!)
Team: (Choose one of three, listed below)
Project Name: (Name your craft anything you like; fanciful titles or simple labels/descriptions are all fine)
Project Link: (Paste the link to your community post for the bonus points)
Brief Description: (Tell us anything you’d like to about the craft, such as how you made it, and why it fits the prompt.)
Project Photo(s): (Post photos of your awesome craft here, so we can ooh and aah over it!)

FAQs

Have more specific questions about the Nerd Games? You can find FAQs here!

THE TEAMS

There are three teams to choose from, and no requirements for joining any of them; simply choose one that speaks to you, put the team name in your first project header, and presto - you’re a member! You will remain on the same team for the entire season. You may change teams in future seasons.

  • So Corn-fused
  • Don’t Stop Beleafing
  • Gourd of the Rings

THE PROMPTS

Prompts will be posted on a monthly basis in the post below. Please choose a prompt. Monthly battles are the only time sensitive prompts. The non-battle prompts are open for the entire season. See THE POINTS section below for point values and several additional crafting opportunities for each of your crafts. You can craft specifically to fit the prompts, or you can craft first and then find a prompt to fit it into. We’re pretty lax about slightly stretched interpretations of the prompts; just explain in your description how it fits!

  • Monthly prompts will close at 11:59pm Central Time on the last day of the current month.

BONUS POINTS

We are trying to keep things simple, so there will only be one type of bonus point available. COMMUNITY POINTS will be given when you post a link to a post you’ve made within the Lettuce Craft community, and will be worth 20 bonus points for each project shared. Please be sure to participate in the entire community and not just in the craftalong!

THE POINTS

This competition is just for fun and the points are for nothing more than motivation and bragging rights, but go ahead and rack up points by posting projects for you team! Points break down as follows:

  • Monthly battles and prompts: 20 points each (must take at least 30 minutes of crafting time)
  • Free Range: 20 points each (must take at least 30 minutes of crafting time. Up to sixallowed per season
  • Big Time projects: 50 points each (must take at least 5 hours of crafting time. Up to threeallowed per season)
  • Zaps: 10 points each (any craft that takes less than 30 minutes to make. Up to five allowed per season)
  • Research Projects: 100 points (must take at least 20 hours of crafting time. Up to two per season)
  • Bonus Points: COMMUNITY bonus points (worth 20 extra per project) are the only bonus opportunity available at this time.

Special Note:
All prompts are supposed to be crafted within the current season. However, we have decided to make an exception to this rule. Let’s say you craft something for a swap near the end of the Summer season. You’ve sent the swap package, but it hasn’t been received yet. Fall season begins, your partner has received their swap item, and you are ready to post. You may go ahead and post your project from the previous season for the current season.

THE RULES

  • Players must craft to the best of their abilities and have a minimum of 30 minutes of crafting time per submission, unless otherwise noted.
  • A project can only be submitted for one prompt or crafting opportunity.
  • A project does NOT have to be "nerdy,” it only has to fulfill the prompt as you see fit.
  • Submitted projects must be started and completed during the current season, unless otherwise noted.
  • There is SO MUCH to do in the Nerd Games. Do not feel like you have to craft everything. Do what inspires you.
  • We welcome all players from the Nerdyverse, no matter their Geekdom. We even welcome non-nerds!
  • We are never mean.
  • We never exclude someone.
  • We will keep it clean-ish (PG-13).
  • Never hesitate in contacting the gamemakers (@storerboughtcreation or @Smeddley) with your questions, concerns, or ideas.

I can take no credit for the prompts this season, I’m drawing from messages sent to me from @bunny1kenobi and @gozer. So if you have ideas, feel free to send them my way! Though I may alter them slightly, it’s a HUGE help (mostly to make them easier to craft to…)

Please post your projects with the following header:

Prompt: (Write the name of the prompt you are entering your craft for here. Don’t forget to include the month!)
Team: (Choose one of three, listed above)
Project Name: (Name your craft anything you like; fanciful titles or simple labels/descriptions are all fine)
Project Link: (Paste the link to your community post for the bonus points)
Brief Description: (Tell us anything you’d like to about the craft, such as how you made it, and why it fits the prompt.)
Project Photo(s): (Post photos of your awesome craft here, so we can ooh and aah over it!)

Monthly Battles

October Battle: Group vs Solo - CLOSED

November Battle: Ancient vs. Modern

October theme – SPICE! But not Pumpkin Spice this time… gozer sent an amazing set of Spice Girls themed prompts! Even if they’re not your cup of tea, these descriptions are sure to space some crafty ideas that will make you Wannabe crafting (and there ends my knowledge of the Spice Girls…)

  1. Baby - Emma was the sweet one of the group. Craft an item that is sweet, for a child/baby, super soft/fluffy, or pastel.
  2. Scary - Mel B was the rebellious, edgy one. Craft an item that is rebellious, is hard to the touch, has sharp (crisp) edges, or is metallic.
  3. Posh - Victoria was stylish and sophisticated. Craft an item that is purely for looks, inspired by something expensive, has a brocade pattern, or uses high-quality supplies.
  4. Ginger - Geri was known for her red hair and fiery, playful personality. Craft an item that requires heat to create, is fun to make, or is red.
  5. Sporty - Mel C was the down-to-earth and sporty one. Craft an item that is sports-related, in your favorite team’s colors, or made from recycled materials.

November theme brought to you by @Bunny1kenobi! We’re delving into ancient cultures and gods, hopefully it will be inspirational!

  1. Zeus: (God of Lightning) - Craft something that requires electricity to make or use, is difficult to work with, large, or requires a variety of supplies (cheated on his wife a lot), or is white.
  2. Quetzalcoatl: (The Feathered Serpent, God of Wisdom) - Craft something that has feathers and/or teeth, features a snake, uses something long and thin to make, requires a new skill, or is multi-colored.
  3. Thor: (God of Thunder) - Craft something that requires a hammer or other tool, has or uses something loud, is something that protects something else, or is yellow.
  4. Ganesha: (God of luck and overcoming obstacles, has the head of an elephant) - Craft something associated with luck, that features an elephant, requires overcoming obstacles to make/had to be redone, or is gray.
  5. Sun Wukong: (The Monkey King) - Craft something that uses an egg, a stone, or something egg-shaped (born from a stone egg), features multiples of the same feature or supply (can clone himself), is tricky to make (trickster), features a monkey, or is brown.

NERD GAMES COUNTY FAIR

Camp is over, but on the way home, we’re stopping by the Nerd Games County Fair!

This season, play games to win prizes, visit the agricultural and horticulture barns, cheer at the demolition derby, brave some rides, take in a show at the grandstand, and enter your creations into Blue Ribbon competitions!

EVENT: Experience the Fair

Hit up the County Fair’s top attractions! Complete ALL FIVE of the following activities and be eligible to claim a small physical prize at the end of the season. (Barns, Demolition Derby, Rides, Games, and Grandstand.) (You may submit under a prompt or as a standalone project, if you don’t have a prompt available.)

Barns. Whether you’re beelining for the animal barn, or stopping to learn about the importance of topsoil nutrients, complete ONE of the following:

  • Craft an agricultural or horticultural-themed item. Share three facts about the theme inspiration when you post. (E.g., if you make a corn-themed item, share facts about corn, like where or how it’s grown, the best conditions for it to grow, the history, why it’s a common crop, etc.)
  • Craft an animal-themed item. Share three facts about the theme inspiration when you post.
  • Craft an eco-friendly item, or clean-energy-themed item. Share three facts about the theme when you post.

Demolition Derby. Cover your ears and get ready to cheer! Watching the modified cars battle it out has given you an idea! Make an item from salvaged or repurposed supplies.

Rides. The Nerd Games County Fair might be small, but we still have the classics! Are you getting in line for the Bumper Cars, Carousel, or Ferris Wheel? Make an item that is inspired by your choice.

Games. Where are you going to spend your tickets? Complete ONE of the following:

  • Ring Toss. Make an item that requires precision.
  • Duck Pond. Make an item that requires careful selection of components.
  • Can Knockdown. Make an item that requires multiples of the same component.
  • Balloon Darts. Make an item that requires a sharp tool.
  • Prize Wheel. Make an item by choosing a supply and letting it guide you (rather than wanting to make a specific project.)

Grandstand. The grandstand is alive with the dulcet tunes of local musicians and performers. Make an item inspired by an instrument or carnival-style performer.

12 Days of Crafting

Are you making gifts for the holidays? Maybe needing a final push to finish a big project? Looking for inspiration to try something new? Welcome to the 12 Days of Crafting, an “advent-style” countdown to take us into December.

Every Monday and Friday for the next 6 weeks, a new prompt will be posted. You may complete the prompts anytime you want during the season. These are 12 additional prompts and require their own projects to submit (30+ minutes crafting time). For the Prompt line on the submission header, list them as Day 1, Day 2, etc.

If you complete all 12 prompts, you’re eligible to claim a small physical prize at the end of the season.

Day 1: Friday, October 24

Get inspired. You’re scrolling through Pinterest, zoning out to TikTok, killing time on Insta, being shown the same video 100 times before clicking on it on YouTube, or keeping it real on LC or walking through an artist bazaar or craft show. Inspiration strikes! You could SO totally make that yourself. Well, it’s time to do it!

Prompt: Craft an item you’ve seen somewhere/someone else make before. Due anytime before the season ends (December 31, 2025).

Day 2: Monday, October 27

Plot and plan. You know what you’re going to make, but there’s so much to consider. Do you have all the supplies? What’s in your hoard? What if you just substitute this for that? What if you just do this other thing instead? Maybe you can ask your friend for that yarn they abandoned? Yes, you can make this, but it needs to be BIGGER!

Prompt: Craft an item that requires planning. Due anytime before the season ends (December 31, 2025).

Day 3: Friday, October 31

Gather supplies. Well, you have most of the stuff you need, but not all of it. At least not where you can find it. Plus, collecting supplies is almost a separate hobby. Time to dig through the clearance bins, stop at that yard sale, check your local buy nothing group, hope and pray the one remaining brick and mortar craft store in your area has what you need, or maybe even check-out that online shopping cart you’ve been building for months.

Prompt: Craft an item that uses three different supplies. (Specifically 3, but count and differentiate however you want. Are two different fabrics two different supplies, or one supply of Fabric? You decide!) Due anytime before the season ends (December 31, 2025).

Day 4: Monday, November 4

Misplace something. You know you bought it, but where the heck did you put that bag? Was it eaten by the craft-pile monster, or perhaps someone in your house unceremoniously moved it? It’s here somewhere. But now you’ve spent all your crafting time searching and you gotta get to bed. Oh well. You’ll find it eventually. Guess you’re not starting today!

Prompt: Craft an item that uses something from your supply stash AND requires some kind of waiting period (e.g., glue drying, baking, etc.). Due anytime before the season ends (December 31, 2025).

Day 5: Friday, November 7

Forget about it. Doot doo doo. Time flies. There are so many other things for you to do! Are you forgetting something?

Prompt: Craft an item that has been on your “to-make” list. Due anytime before the season ends (December 31, 2025).

Day 6: Monday, November 10

Get re-inspired. What’s that? Under the table? Ah-ha! It’s the missing bag of supplies you couldn’t find. You were so excited to make that item, and stumbling upon the wayward necessities has re-sparked your interest!

Prompt: Craft an item that has/uses a recycled or repurposed element. Due anytime before the season ends (December 31, 2025).

I have always admired all the creativity on this thread but haven’t ever joined because I wasn’t sure if I understood everything and was afraid to make a bunch of mistakes. Everyone has been so kind and helpful and the projects over the summer were so much fun to see! I’m going to read everything again this weekend. I find the themes to be fun and this might be the creative push I need over the fall!

Yes, Linda!! You should definitely join. This thread definitely provides a creative push for me. One of the fun things with the Nerds Games is the loose interpretation of the prompts. I typically don’t make items to fit the prompts, I make the prompts fit the items. I would love to see the addition of all your projects to the thread this season!

Yes!!! Please do join! If you’re unsure of anything, don’t hesitate to send me a message. I’m more than happy to answer any questions you may have. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I’m hoping to stay ahead or at least stay current by posting as I complete items this season (wish me luck with that, lol).

Prompt: Posh Spice
Team: So Corn-fused
Project Name: LC Love
Project Link: Not yet available
Brief Description: I have completed my first LC Love ornament for STS. This ornament is purely for looks and if time is money, then it is quite expensive as well.

OHMYGOSHOHMYGOSH they’re definitely going to be ready when I’m offline for a few days then, huh? :sob::sob::sob::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Also, yes! @AIMR please jump in! I used to be afraid of joining because it looks confusing from the outside! But it’s really just five prompts plus the battle prompt each month! And I think most of us fit the prompts to our projects, although sometimes the prompts shake loose some inspiration I wouldn’t have otherwise found too!

You’re in luck (assuming it’s this weekend you’ll be offline) . I am going to close my shop today and it will be closed all next week. I’ll probably reopen on Monday, October 13th. I am hoping to have these, along with 3 regular (non-LC) bookshelf ornaments up and ready to go when I reopen my shop.

Oh NOICE!

Edit to add: I just closed my shop, but I should be back open by Monday (or maybe Sunday, if I remember)!

Editing again to just say I have realized I think I meant to post this in the STS thread. Whoops sorry all.
