Prompt: May, The Muppet Show
Team: Super Groovy
Project Name: Pigleta needle minder
Project Link: Pigleta needle minder
Brief Description:

Trixi Symonds provided this pattern and tutorial during Making Zen. I made a few changes (details at the project link) and it was a fun project! I made this one as a gift but there may be one for myself in the future. Currently my needles are stuck into the arm of my chair, which can be painful :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:.

The project is sewn, pink and it’s a piggy, so: The Muppet Show!

Prompt: The Mall

Project Name: If Demogorgon‘s were cuddly
Project Link: Monster Mystery Express Swap 2026 Gallery
Brief Description: I made this for a swap, it was the monster swap :musical_notes: But it ties in to the 80s cause I realized I had inadvertently made a demogorgon that was soft, fuzzy and had a little tummy. The mall because demogorgons have been known to frequent malls in the 80s. He is needle felted with beads. He lives with @Tapestry .

All these nerdy creations are wondrous!

Love the 60’s dresses made and modeled by @Rlynn and @stirlingarts . You two should get extra credit for these amazing creations. The bouffant hair, such a nice touch Rlynn!

Hello, fellow nerds! I’ve been away for a while, but am coming to show off some of what I’ve done in the meantime! And since it looks like the teams all have exactly the same number of people in them right now, I’ll go ahead and mess that up by joining crafting bestie @storerboughtcreation on Super Groovy!

Prompt: April - Roller Disco, 00s pin
Team: Totally Radical
Project Name: LettuceCraft Quiltalong Keychain
Project Link: Q3 Prize Pack
Brief Description: Since keychains are typically on keys, they are often on the move.

I graduated high school in the early 2000s and used the money I received as graduation gifts to buy my first car. While my keys have changed over the years from actual keys, to a fob that just sits in my cup holder while I’m driving, the one thing that hasn’t changed is the fact that I still use keychains. I tried to find a pic my first car, but no luck.

Prompt: Zap #3
Team: Super Groovy
Project Name: Scrap Board Punching Cradle
Project Link: n/a
Brief Description: Since I got back into bookbinding I’ve been punching my signatures with a basic hooked template. But I have a large project coming up so I wanted something a little less fussy and whipped up a quick punching cradle out of scrap materials using this tutorial. If I’d known it was so simple I would have made one ages ago.

The second half of the video has an even simpler one made of corrugated cardboard that looks like it has real possibilities.

Yes, I noticed that! You could easily just make one on the spur of the moment!

Prompt: May, AOL; Pin event, 1990s
Team: Super Groovy
Project Name: Hyperbolic Hat with Möbius Bow
Project Link: Hyperbolic Hat with Möbius Bow
Brief Description:

I have been reading a book about crocheting models of hyperbolic planes (yes, unbelievably, such a book actually exists! See the project link for info) and I decided to try my hand at it. It really lent itself to the idea of a hat. So while I was at it, I crocheted a Möbius strip to use as a bow.

Project Photo(s):

This fits with the AOL theme because, well, the Internet (with a capital I, as it was in the 1990s).

Also, blue

And modeling hyperbolic planes using crochet originated with the author (Daina Taimina) in 1997. Here’s a screenshot from the book

Prompt: Research Project
Team: Super Groovy
Project Name: Harlequin Cats mosaic
Project Link: Harlequin Cats
Brief Description: I designed and crocheted this blanket. I made it reversible, and I spent probably 10 hours or so on the design, and about 85 hours crocheting it. I’ve definitely gotten a lot slower at crochet since my shoulder surgery last year. I know that doesn’t really matter as I enjoy doing it, but it means it takes longer to get to the next fun project :winking_face_with_tongue:
