I really liked this…I have also found that better quality paints seem to also hold pigment together better…and you can use many other things besides water…a lot of the things I do are not really meant to be preserved for eternity…they are meant for me…so I am not that concerned

Let me give it some thought as to how it might work. I might be able to find a similar look in an actual tutorial. Maybe its because I love Toni Burt, and it’s a similar style.

I had just been thinking about the beauty in the natural world of autumn and winter (though I’m madly in love with the lush greenery that goes away), and how my home and wardrobe seem to match the aesthetics of that time of year. And this intro seems to go right along with the thoughts I’d been forming. The gold/white/silver with earth tones and natural textures definitely call me!

I was thinking working on a kraft paper base? Maybe with a metallic of some kind?

A thin wash of a metallic paint really rubbed in to the kraft paper, to start, would be nice… If you use an actual paper grocery bag (the rougher, heavier kind, not the dinky glossy ones), there is a nice texture that still comes through. Because it absorbs so much you may do several washes to get it how you want it, or maybe you’d want it subtle to start. Then maybe, as one element, embroider a leaf into the paper, or affix a found feather or dried plant on the page with some stitches.

I like this idea! I would probably do that on top, though. I immediatelu started turning it mixed media, so I have to dial myself back so I can stick with paper materials.

What is coming to mind is “mica flakes sprinkled onto wet gesso” - but honestly I’m not even sure what that means, it’s coming from way back in the memory bank. And it’s early in the morning.

Hey @jemimah! I am looking at Sat, the 12th to try my hand at a version of this. I am thinking early morning EST is late your time. Maybe 9 or 10 here?
I am going to use one of Toni Burt’s videos for general techniques and to loosely follow. But will use kraft paper as a base, and either punches for repetitive layers (butterfly, etc) or find an animal or 2 from a magazine. And maybe some gold leaf?
I will post more details, but is anyone interested in another Paper Zoom? We’ve done enough, I figure we know its okay to not have exact materials, and to just make!

Hey there @JoyfulClover! I would love to join you if I can. Unfortunately, I think 9.00am EST is 1.00am Sunday here, and I can try but I’m unlikely to be awake.
I seem to be set on really early hours atm, I’m normally wide awake before about 5am (even if I want to be asleep …), but crash at night, even if trying to stay up. Is there any chance early afternoon your time would suit you, 1.00pm onwards?
No worries if that doesn’t suit though, choose a time that works for you. I will drink lots of coffee and try to make it anyway

I really like your plan to use a video for some ideas and inspiration (Toni Burt’s are so beautiful), but take it in our own directions depending on what we feel like and what materials we have. I think I’m going to try painting an animal - maybe cardboard, charcoal, paint, and some gold and silver. Ooh, excited!

For your situational awareness: Tombow Mono liquid glue never stops being sticky to the touch. 
It says it has a removable bond, but when you do try to remove or adjust what you’ve glued, you get a nasty, tacky mess. Do any of you know of an instance or type of project where this would be a helpful quality? I made these stamps probably two months ago from stuff around the house, adhering them with this glue, and because the glue shows through they’re as sticky as ever, even with dust and lint.
(Stamps made with cardboard, pieces of anti-skid rug liners, and cotton yarn)

MAYBE to be removable? I accidentally bought scotch tape that’s ‘wall safe’, which means there’s low to no stickiness. Such a waste. Why would someone buy these? What’s the purpose?

Unfortunately the removable aspect leaves two surfaces that stay sticky; there’s no cleaning up possible, in the case of paper crafting. Moral of the story: only use this glue if you’re 100% certain it won’t ooze out around the edges of what you’re gluing.
