Prompt: July - Battle - Online
Team: Board Games
Project Name: Pattern redesign
Project Link: I See You! Bobble Blanket
Brief Description: I had to do a redesign on both of these blankets to make them each 8 rows shorter. I especially like the edit on the monkey blanket with the tail hiding behind the word ‘peek.’ These took about an hour each to edit between the redesign and fixing the written patterns to reflect the changes.

Project Name: I See You blanket
Project Link: I See You! Bobble Blanket
Brief Description: The original pattern was 50 x 60 stitches wide. Because of how I"m working the bobbles, it actually is really 101 x 120. Or was. I found the blanket to be too weird shaped, so I ended up taking the chart down to only 52 high. I frogged back from row 52 to row 16 (again, really row 104
to row 32 since every row is worked twice and each square is two stitches wide). That was a lot of work to frog, and I almost cried. But I’m glad I did it. I also fixed the spacing on the word ‘you’ for this blanket, and I’m glad I frogged. I think it looks much better.

July went by in a hazy heat, now posting from the relatively cooler Helsinki. There were crafts going on during the month, now that my brain is not a melted puddle, I’ll try to collect them.

Prompt: July Battle - Online
Team: Team Video Games
Project Name: Spiral beaded bracelet
Project Link:
Brief Description:
This is a technique I learned online, and it’s all made with one line (string), so all the beads are “online”.
I chose online because even though I love both sides of this batter, the online games saved a bit of our sanity during the lock-downs.

Prompt: July Battle- Online
Team: Card Games
Project Name: Easy Dishcloth (in LED colors)
Project Link: N/A
Brief Description: I am away on vacation and brought a small cross stitch project to complete for the challenge, but I didn’t have as much time to work on it, and couldn’t do it in the car. We happened to pass a Hobby Lobby, and they had this yarn in red, blue, and green. RGB are the colors used for the LEDs in a TV screen. And, playing online games with a big LED screen is great for the graphics!

@bunny1kenobi I like your junk journal add-ons. They are very cohesive and I loved the subject matter!

@storerboughtcreation – Your blanket is so cute! I love that little face! Oh my goodness, that is adorable!

@audiobooklover – Um, okay. #1, I love your pillowcase and quilt. That feather fabric is gorgeous and works well with the burgundy. I love that quilt. That dog panel (fourth down) looks like it was made just for this. And your fussy cut is amazing. I love a fussy cut. But, um, five hours? You’re telling me that entire quilt took you five hours – to complete. Cut, sew the squares, assemble, actually quilt, and bind. Five hours? That is insane to me. I just made a quilt top with fewer squares, and it took me almost 15 hours. What am I doing wrong?!!

And none of my squares matched up. :joy:

Oh, no, no, no. I can only dream of being that kind of a speedy quilter! The five hours were only how much time I spent on it this season. Imagine the quilt without the binding - that’s which stage I was at when I put in the additional five hours. I am the opposite of speedy. Those last five hours were spent burying and snipping the excess threads from quilting the borders, cutting the strips for and creating the binding, and sewing the binding and label to the quilt. I am an especially slow hand stitcher and hand stitching the label to the back of the quilt (only two sides, because the binding sides were machine stitched) took me waaay longer than it seems it should have (45mins-an hour). So, if it only took you 15 hours to create an entire quilt, I am the one who is extremely impressed!

Oh, thank goodness. I thought I was doing something super wrong! Ha!
I am not done. That was just the front. I plan to start the actual quilting part this weekend, then the binding. It has been a process.

I highly suggest using this video as a guide when you do your binding. I can’t tell you haw many times I’ve gone to sew my binding on only to end up with a small amount of excess binding when I sew the last two strips together. There’s a tip in the video that prevents that little bit of excess and the headache that always accompanies it - game changer!

Ooh. Thank you! I have been pretty much winging this quilt. I am sure years from now I will look back on it and laugh at how bad it is.

Ah, I missed the June battle, but I promise to get in and post some stuff soon. In the meantime, AUGUST PROMPTS ARE UP!

@Gozer - Ahhh, I need to hem so much stuff, I just keep putting it off! And I always love all your art, so pretty! The collection of doll papercrafts are amazing.

@Megwell - Great use of that page of stickers!

@Bunny1kenobi - That card looks adorable! I like those covered paper clips, something like that would be perfect for making pages in my bullet journal… and those corner embellished pages are great for a journal! All of the journal/collage pages look so good…

@Tapestry - Those water color doodles are so cute!

@Roler - Ah, granny squares are so deceptive, they take so much time! I love the combination of colors on the pillow! And I need to get back into ATCs, I miss doing those… I love the slice of life idea! The scrapbook pages look fantastic.

OMG I COVET that octopus rug!!!

@Audiobooklover - Both those pasta salads looks delicious! And I love turning t-shirts into bags, they are so sturdy and cute! The quilt and pillow are adorable.

@Storerboughtcreation - Your blanket designs are so amazing, love it! And it was worth frogging the blanket as hard as I know that was, it looks so good.

@Tanath - I really like that spiral bracelet! Simple, but elegant, and probably a lot trickier to do than it looks to keep that spiral!

@CraftADDchick - Yay dishcloths! :smiley:
