~ Harry Potter Craftalong ~ Ostara 2020 ~
~ June 1st, 2020 - September 30th, 2020~
Welcome to Hogwarts!
~ WHAT IS THE HP CRAFTALONG & HOW TO PARTICIPATE ~
The Harry Potter Craftalong (HPC) is a way to share your crafts, cheer on friends, celebrate your love of Harry Potter, and most of all to be inspired. Each term we have class prompts inspired by Hogwarts courses, Detention challenges to motivate you on mundane tasks, & Headmistress Musings inspired by the season. Complete crafts inspired by these prompts, and you earn House Points. While the prompts themselves are HP themed, your crafts do not have to be. You may craft anything you wish. You may join anytime during a term, and participate as much, or as little as you wish. At the end of each term we take an average of each House’s Points, and declare a winner!
To participate, simply read through the prompts in the post below, find one that inspires you, create a craft to fit the challenge, then post it here. That’s all there is to it!
~ HOW TO POST ~

~Class Prompts~
Alchemy: Continuing with our study of the classical planets, we are looking towards Venus this term. Venus is linked to the metal Copper. Please create something linked to Venus, or the Roman goddess of love and beauty it is named after, or incorporate copper in to the item in some way.
Apparition: In order to be allowed to apparate you must pass the course and be of age. For this semester, I want you to craft something inspired by something legal you can do once you become of age. Maybe make a dish with alcohol, something for the car you’re allowed to drive, or something for someone who are in the military, or even for someone who are getting married.
Arithmancy: Wizards can use arithmancy to help predict trends in the future. This term please craft something inspired by the upcoming trends. Maybe it’s fashion, environment, diet, music or other kinds of trends.
Astronomy: This term we will study the constellation of Scorpius. For your homework please craft something that has a curve or a “sting” to it.
Care of Magical Creatures (CoMC): The pixie is a mischievous little creature that is electric blue in color and delights in all types of tricks and practical jokes. For your assignment this term please craft something tricky or that is a practical joke. Make a hoopla where the punchline is highlighted, crochet a tricky pattern, or bake a cake with a surprise inside. Alternatively, craft something bright blue in color.
Defense Against the Dark Arts (DADA): As the world is currently afflicted by the Corona-hex, we will study hex deflection spells. Salvio hexa You will study ways to mitigate its effects. For homework, craft something that helps you, or others, through the duration of the current hex. This might be masks, nourishing food, comforting blankets or shawls for those that are suffering from the effects of the corona-hex.
Divination: This summer we will begin our study of Lithomancy, the art of divining by studying crystals or semi-precious stones and the light they refract. To demonstrate your mastery of the subject matter please submit a project that either utilizes a transparent element or contains jewel tones. This could include jem colored candies or a fairy garden featuring translucent resin water.
Flying: While broomstick flying may be marginally safer at this point than the muggle flying machines, most of us have had our vacation plans disrupted for the coming months. Instead of an in-person appearance, take a flight of imagination and craft something inspired by a place you would like to visit, either in the muggle, magical, or a fictional world.
Herbology: Bottle Gourd has smooth, light-green skin, and white flesh. It’s used to help control blood sugar and relieve headaches, and has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Further uses include treating Alzheimer’s and age-related senility. Your options are: 1) include a green or white element 2) make something you find soothing, such as an eye pillow, blanket, or just something that makes you feel calm and happy to make or look at 3) make something with cleaning properties, whether it’s a magical floor wash, or a dish scrubber, or an organizer to help you tidy things away; or 4) create something that helps you remember something.
History of Magic (HoM): The Quidditch World Cup is a major event held every 4 years. Many Witches and Wizards will travel to the site and camp out for days or weeks before the matches to enjoy the festive atmosphere. For your assignment, create your project out-of-doors, or to be used camping or picnicking.
Muggle Studies: You may be surprised to know that Wizard Society occasionally takes inspiration from the Muggle World. One example of this is the Knight Bus, emergency transport for the stranded witch or wizard. The bus has 3 tiers, and is recognized by it’s purple color. For your assignment, please create some purple, with 3 layers, or that offers protection.
Potions: We will be making the Vitamix Potion, which will give us a burst of energy - which I’m sure we all can do with during the Corona-Hex. For your homework I would like you to craft something that would be helpful during or after doing your exercises
Transfiguration: The Multicorfors spell changes the color and style of a persons outfit. Shake up you own or someone else’s style this term by crafting something for a new outfit. Add a splash of color to an otherwise awesome plain outfit with a fascinator or new pin to wear. Sew up a skirt with a asymmetrical hemline, paint up a pair of sneakers, or tie dye a new tee to wear. No limits here!
House Pride Challenge: Please craft something by your chosen Hogwarts House.
House Unity Challenge: Please craft something inspired by another Hogwarts House, or by all of the Houses/School combined.
WIP Challenge: For this challenge, please complete a Work In Progress. For this term only, you may complete this prompt 2 times!
Stash Challenge: For this challenge, please craft something solely from your stash. For this term only, you may complete this prompt 5 times!
Reparo Challenge: For this challenge, please repair something broken or alter something to work better for you. For this term only, you may complete this prompt 2 times!
Advanced Studies Challenge: For this challenge please put in 2 hours on an ongoing OWL or NEWT assignment & be prepared to show before & after progress shots. Please note: no before & after pics = no points! For this term only, you may complete this prompt 2 times!
