Nerd Games - Winter 2025

@LovelyMiss - too bad the buffet was cancelled, I’m glad you could reschedule it. Your rice packs look like a great gift, probably very welcome in this cold weather.
@Smeddley - that’s a cute little wren. The football pool might have been chaotic, but you did run it, so that’s at least one duck (can we keep one duck in a row?).

Here’s my attempt at being a responsible adult being who is in charge of the food in this house.

Prompt: January Battle - Ducks in a Row
Team: Bits and Bobs
Project Name: A Trio of Soups
Project Link: N/A
Brief Description:
Spent one weekend in January making one soup each day, for the family to enjoy throughout the week.
Friday was chicken soup, which was gone by Monday, so I didn’t even manage to catch a picture of a bowl.
Saturday was “orange” vegetable soup, per my daughter’s request. We eat this one with crumbled feta.
Sunday was veggie soup with turkey meatballs. The girls just eat the meatballs from this soup, I sometimes add pasta or rice to mine and then it’s a pretty filling meal.

Prompt: Research Project
Team: Bits and Bobs
Project Name: Swatch All The Colors
Project Link: N/A
Brief Description: I’m swatching all my watercolors to see exactly what I have and make planning pallettes for various paintings a little easier. The overall project is taking forever because I have approximately 300 colors. Between painting each card, organizing the swatches and looking up paint details like the exact pigment colors for each paint (when available), I’ve already spent over 20 hours and still have about 60 colors to swatch.

I couldn’t resist the Mad Libs. XD
Bookstore Babe wanted to make a SUPERHERO themed craft, using or inspired by WOOD. It features a variety of colors including RED and White. Everyone remarked how YUMMY and WITTY it looked when they gazed up on the finished project.

Thaaat’s going to be interesting.

Prompt: January- “Work Out”

Team: Knotty by Nature

Project Name: Woven gradient palaka

Project Link: Woven Palaka Scarves

Brief Description: I’m still new enough to weaving (and generally terrible enough at following any patterns) that things like this still take a bit of mental effort. I was also weaving this one in a shadowy corner in the dark driveway at night, so I couldn’t actually see what I was doing and was hoping for the best. I tried to subtlety get darker throughout the length of this scarf/runner and I think it actually worked!

Project Link: Little Teddy Bear with a Rainbow scarf 🌈

Brief Description:
He’s got six body parts (head, torso, two arms, two legs) and he’s flexible too!

I think teddy bears are KID-themed.
He’s got tiny GLASS beads in his butt.
He’s TAN with a RAINBOW scarf.
NORMAL, yet THOUGHTFUL. (?)

You totally nailed the Mad Lib challenge! Your bear looks like a normal teddy bear, but the way his head is cocked gives him a thoughtful air. What a great interpretation!

@gozer I love the card and bookmark so much, and am so grateful to be counted amongst the recipients for the Galentine’s Day swap. I can’t wait for spring to plant the little heart!

The cat pillowcase is so cute. I know Yeti will love it  :cat:

@Mountains_and_Clouds, I love your little glass bead-butt, thoughtful teddy with a scarf  :rainbow: :scarf:  So cute :teddy_bear:

And your woven scarves always make me want to sign up for a weaving class in town. Some day!

@Tapestry, I just Love your mushrooms! Great colours and the dots and squares make it so fun.

The swatch project looks amazing and I admire your patience and determination!

The galentine’s day cards are so well put together, and the watercolour bouquets were such a cool idea. It’s neat that you can either display them or use them to decorate journals, etc.

@megwell, great reuse; I feel like that quote is perfect for an art journal, too :paintbrush:

@storerboughtcreation, that blanket looks amazing! And cozy, too. And what an adorable Ballerina Hippo!! She’s so cute  :hippopotamus:  Now you have your very own house hippo :canada:

@Bunny1kenobi , that mandala looks beautiful. I love the colour combination you chose.

@craftADDchick That gnome towel holder is so funny! I think it was worth all the trouble, because your friend will really enjoy it

@ezrib, those gyros look super nutritious :yum:

@LovelyMiss, oooh, homemade hot and cold packs! Those are awesome and a super useful craft, too. Perhaps someday I will finally learn to sew and make some for myself :joy:

Thank you @Smeddley, book binding really is time-consuming, but it’s such a sense of accomplishment to use a notebook I made myself

What an adorable birdie!!!

@Tanath making soup ahead of time is such a time-saver and a great idea. I need to get back to doing make-ahead/prep-ahead meals. I love the collage, too!

Prompt: Recycle (February Battle)
Team: Knotty by Nature
Project Name: Tissue Cases
Project Link: Linky
Brief Description: I made fabric tissue cases using stash and scrap fabric. I feel it fits “Recycle” because my supermarket now does pocket pack tissues in paper packets, but they kept falling apart in my bag. Making these cases let’s me buy paper wrapped pocket tissues, in easy to recycle wrappers, rather than the plastic packaged ones where the plastic film is hard to recycle.
