~ Harry Potter Craftalong ~
~ June 1st - Sept 30th, 2021~
Welcome to Hogwarts!
~ WHAT IS THE HP CRAFTALONG & HOW TO PARTICIPATE ~
The Harry Potter Craftalong (HPC) is a way to share your crafts, cheer on friends, celebrate your love of Harry Potter, and most of all to be inspired . Each term we have class prompts inspired by Hogwarts courses, Detention challenges to motivate you on mundane tasks, & Headmistress Musings inspired by the season. Complete crafts inspired by these prompts, and you earn House Points. While the prompts themselves are HP themed, your crafts do not have to be. You may craft anything you wish. You may join anytime during a term, and participate as much, or as little as you wish. At the end of each term we take an average of each Houseās Points, and declare a winner!
To participate, simply read through the prompts in the post below, find one that inspires you, create a craft to fit the challenge, then post it here. Thatās all there is to it!

~Class Prompts~
Alchemy: We are looking towards Mercury this term. Mercury is linked to the metal Quicksilver (aka Mercury) ā the only metallic element that is liquid at room temperature. Please create something linked to Mercury, the smallest of the planets, which carries the name of the Roman god of commerce and the messenger of the gods. For example you could craft something miniature, or something that can be used as a carrier, like a bag or decorated envelopes.
Apparition: Besides being the means for transportation for Witches and Wizards, an Apparition is also the spirit of a dead person appearing in a form that can be seen. Craft something translucent or semi-translucent like a ghost, something that appeared to you, like the idea itself, or be inspired by someone who has passed.
Arithmancy: Numerology is the magical discipline related to numbers that appears to be a part of, or similar/related to Arithmancy. For this term please craft something that is a part of, similar/related to another craft project.
Astronomy: Itās quite common for Muggles to name their full moons. Juneās full moon for example is called āStrawberry Moonā. As homework I would like you to craft something red or pink, something that contains strawberries, or something else inspired by strawberries.
Care of Magical Creatures: Sea Serpents are fearsome looking creatures with a horse-like head and snake-like bodies. Despite this no sea serpent has ever been known to hurt a human. They are found in several seas around the world including the Atlantic, Pacific, and Mediterranean seas. For your assignment this term please create something that has serpentine characteristics (such as a scarf), alternatively craft something relating to the seas.
Defense Against the Dark Arts (DADA): The Hex-breaker spell is a complex one to cast, it requires a precise sequence of six steps, finishing with the wand being held in the feet. The entire world has been under a Hex for over a year. As always, it is best to work on your corner of the world first. For homework create something that helps you throw off the gloom that has accompanied this hex, make something nurturing for yourself, or for someone who has the glooms. Work with light, crystals or sparkles, to bring light into dark places. Make a dream catcher to seize the nightmares of the last year. Alternatively use
Divination: While it is perfectly acceptable to practice your divination methods on your own, it is best to practice with other people. This semester as we begin to enter the social sphere again, I would like you to create a project with another person. This could be you and a friend or family member sharing the work on the same project, or planning a crafting date where everyone works on something different in the same space. Alternately you may choose to craft something intended as a gift for someone else.
Flying: Classes at Hogwarts focus on methods of flying related to Broomstick Travel, but they are not the only magical flying implement. In many parts of the world a Magic Carpet is preferred. These can carry many people or larger loads than are convenient on a broom. For your homework assignment, please create something that is four-cornered, flat and flexible like a carpet, something that can hold a lot of something, or something that has fringe or tassels.
Herbology: Sage wards off evil, and is associated with wisdom and good luck. Sage builds emotional strength and can help to heal grief. Your options are 1) create something to bring the user luck, 2) use your wisdom to alter/upcycle an item or to alter the pattern or technique used for your project, or 3) make something comforting for the user, or work in a medium you find comforting to use.
History of Magic (HoM):
Muggle Studies: This term we are studying Muggle camping. Your creation should be something that can be used out of doors. Alternately, you may cook something out of doors. For extra brownie points, watch an episode of the Muggle Anime
Potions: This term weāre going to be adventurous: I would like you to create your own potion. Craft something that is your own idea (create your own pattern, own sketch, create your own recipe or similar). I canāt wait what you come up with!
Transfiguration: Bluebell flames are bright blue in appearance, and are waterproof. These magical flames can be touched and held without burning the holder. They can also be safely carried in a small object, such as a jar, without the object being damaged. This term create something that uses or holds flames (think campfire treats and fire pits) in its creation. Or alternatively craft something that is bright blue in color.
House Pride Challenge: Please craft something by your chosen Hogwarts House.
House Unity Challenge: Please craft something inspired by another Hogwarts House, or by all of the Houses/School combined.
Advanced Studies Challenge: Put in 2 hours on an ongoing Advanced Studies project, and be prepared to show before & after progress shots.
Reparo Challenge: Repair something, alter something to suit you, or complete a large organization project.
Stash Challenge: Craft something solely from your stash. For this term only, you may complete this prompt 3 times!
WIP Challenge: Complete a Work In Progress.
